For several years I've been aware of Postcard Friendship Friday but never joined in. I have no idea why since I've been collecting postcards since childhood; so what better place to find others with the same "problem".
Today I take the step into the postcard unknown and add a contribution that took an interesting journey to get to it's final destination.
Baltimore to London to Zurich. The card most likely traveled farther than the sender ever did.

I find it interesting that the front says "Copyright 1908 Chas. Scribner's Sons" and the back says "Published by Reinthal & Newman, N. Y." followed by "Chas. H. Hauff, London, Eng." Basically even if this card had never been sent on its voyage to multiple cities it had already had more than enough involved to just give "birth" to it.
Chas. Scribner's Sons was of course a publisher that was eventually swallowed up by the mega publishing companies today.
Reinthal & Newman was a publisher of lithographic prints and postcards based in New York.
I'm not finding any definitive information about Chas. H. Hauff, but I'm assuming they were possibly co-publishers with Reinthal & Newman for sales in Europe.

The oh so important message on the back of the card is a wee bit difficult to read through the postal stamps, but:
Fudge (???) isfine but some otherkind of candy is betterHope you did not getvery sick on the way over and that youhad some fine timesWe are having a fine time& I soon leave for a few short tripsM
As to the idea of a "Fudge Party"...who's up for that? Sounds like a fine time to me!
So thank you "The Best Hearts Are Crunchy" for hosting this. I already see many online friends who are regular posters.
HEY! Glad to see you've joined the party. Always nice to run into folks we already know, and 'smell the roses', even if they smell like fudge!
ReplyDeleteI'm lousy at themes. I know I have a card with a rose but to find it...oh my.
ReplyDeleteWonderful card. I'm up for a fudge party and a little guitar playing! Welcome and Happy PFF!
ReplyDelete"Fudge certainly is fine"? I've never come across a fudge part before, but I'm all in favour! :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this postcard!!! Wow!
ReplyDeleteThis is Beth from Crunchy Hearts. Don't worry about a theme--I usually put up something with a theme--but that doesn't mean everyone else has to come up with something according that. lol Just put up your favorite postcards, and tell us why you love 'em!
It is a delight to see you join PFF today! Have a wonderful weekend!
some of us never follow a theme. thanks for joining us.
ReplyDeleteI also run Sunday stamps, if you have any tattered stamps. Sometimes there is a theme, sometimes there isn't.
Thanks for the invite. Of course I have stamps. I have so much old paper around this place it looks like a an insane birds nest.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to PFF! And what a fantastic vintage card it is. I wish I have more vintage postcards in my collection. A fudge party seems to be the in-thing in those times :)
ReplyDeleteHappy PFF and have a great weekend.
What a curious and very beautiful card.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see your post on PFF! Would love to have a piece of good old fashioned fudge! My brother one time asked me if I had a recipe for the hard, sugary fudge we used to make when we were young kids at home. I told him to just cook it too long! He thought that was the way fudge was meant to be. Have a fun weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love to find old postcards with writing on the back! I just discovered a huge scrapbook collection of vintage postcards and posted some on madelinesmemories-ann.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeleteOh Carol, that's the kind of fudge my grandmother used to make for me. When I arrived at her house I would always find fudge in the milk glass chicken. Still have that chicken, but no fudge.
ReplyDeleteAnn, I'm jealous.
I'm up for a fudge party. The last time I ate a fudge. I was in Tennessee. It's been a long time. I love sending and receiving postcards. Mine is up - My PFF Entry. Thanks for sharing and Happy PFF!
ReplyDeleteGlad you joined... no particular theme. Anything is great just join the fun!!!! Love the image on the card, interesting message, I am not sure I would tell the giver some other candy better!!!! Happy PFF... Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhen I looked at that postcard, it just screamed 'Little Women' to me did they do Fudge parties? I'm sure Jo must have played the guitar lol!
ReplyDeleteFudge party? Count me in! Maple walnut is my favorite. Must be modern version of the taffy pulling parties. It's certainly more fun than a barn raising or bandage rolling get together.
ReplyDeletePerhaps what we need is a Flash Fudge Mob. All gather at one spot and eat fudge. Meet me at See's Candy.
ReplyDeleteCount me in for the fudge party. Lovely card.
ReplyDeleteTake a look at the three posts that follow this one to see a variety of old fudge recipes.
