From MRS. MILLER to MR. JIM GRIFFIN
What an odd post card to send from Nebraska. And what was the relationship between Mrs. Miller and Mr. Griffin so far apart. We could easily spin a story.

What are the wild waves saying,
ReplyDeleteSister, the whole day long.
That ever amid our playing
I hear but their low, lone song.
What are the wild waves saying?
Yes! but there's something greater
That speaks to the heart alone.
'Tis the voice of the great Creator
Dwells in the mighty tone.
By John Edwards Carpenter, 1813-1885.
I recognized this one right away. It was one of the most popular hymns of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Carpenter was a British song writer who wrote all types of songs. There are plenty of recordings of it out there.
Thank you! That's fascinating. And fascinating that such a seasick looking image would be used. Somehow I don't think the card creators got it just right.
