Happy Birthday!

For my best friend. And yes, it contains all four records. And no, I can't play them. My turntable won't play 78s.

  1. Oh wow, I love 78s, there is something so solid about them. I have quite a few, some rock and roll that belonged to my aunt and a lot of Scottish Country dancing and Classical that belonged to my gran. There are also some discs for learning French! I always fancied getting one of those old wind up gramophones to play them on. We used to be able to play them on DH's previous turntable but sadly no more.

Danny Kaye is great isn't he? So much fun, I remember watching the Hans Christian Andersen story, I didn't like the Ugly Duckling song that was so popular, my favourite was the Inch Worm song. Great film. Thanks for making all those memories come to the surface.

  3. Yes, love Danny. I know my best friend is waiting for me to do a post about him. I got to see him live twice as a child. Very strong memories.

I do have a Danny Kaye CD. Unfortunately it doesn't have any of the songs on these records.

My mother had a really large collection of 78s. We took most of them with us to Hawaii. I used to play Benny Goodman's "Sing, Sing, Sing" over and over and.... Then when we shipped them all back the only one that broke was..."Sing, Sing, Sing." I do have a few old Frank Sinatra 78s. Unfortunately none of them have the sleeves. Wish I could play them. I recently bought some old children's records at an estate sale. Can't play them, but love the cover.
