I believe the young man, in hopes of wooing his true love was left out in the cold, thus "failed to win a home." Poor fellow had a lot of 'splanin' to do! "Blow into them before you put them on" must have come as quite a shock to the young lady.
I imagine the poor fellow had to move out of the county after this.
What I'd really like to know is how many cards like this were in the series and what's the history behind them. As you can see there's no copyright information.
